Creating the foundation for the future

I’m a paediatric physiotherapist and work with children of all ages.

When I graduated from Latrobe University in Melbourne I was keen to travel and expand my horizons. I began working as a children’s physiotherapist in 1994 in Chicago USA, and was surrounded by inspirational therapists that laid my foundation as a Neurodevelopmental Therapist (NDT). When I returned to Australia I completed the 8-week Bobath NDT course, and the advanced baby and children’s course. I later obtained a Master’s Degree in Public Health and Tropical Medicine from James Cook University Townsville in 2003, and am always excited to learn more in the children’s physiotherapy world.

I’ve dedicated my career to working with children and have had wonderful opportunities to work with children across the lifespan. I have worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Special Care Unit (SCU) and Paediatric ward in Townsville, the Royal Childrens Hospital and Glenallen Special School in Melbourne, children’s therapy services in Dublin and Townsville, and finally the Child Development Service and Cerebral Palsy Health Service here in Cairns.

I started my own private practice in Cairns in 2017 - initially as a mobile service. From there I realised that children require a dedicated children’s physiotherapy clinic that is fun and exciting to attend.

I’m a strong believer in the “F-words” for childhood disability developed by Can Child. Childrens physiotherapy is about focusing on Functioning, Family, Fitness, Fun, Friends, Future.

I have created a fun space that’s just for children, with lots of colour, climbing and play equipment, and toys. I also love coming out to see children in their own environments and provide physio in homes, childcare, kindy, school and OSHC.
